The way of life has changed little since Cajuns first came here in the mid-1700's, and the lost tribe who dwell here today share the fierce independence of those early pioneers, living off the land as they did. In this new series HISTORY chronicles the swampers busiest time of year — alligator season — and the risks undertaken by the unique group that makes the swamp their home. At its core, this is a story of the American spirit — these people experience first-hand how Mother Nature is a formidable foe, and only those with survival instincts honed over several generations can prevail.
